Aviary Redesign

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium’s Aviary signage hadn’t been updated for years. Outdated animal identification and lackluster interaction called for a full redesign of the exhibit. The Design and Education departments worked together to come up with a budget-friendly, multidimensional, interactive experience that engaged children and adults alike to learn about the birds they were seeing. Facts and questions lead users through the walkway’s “lookouts” to identify each bird. This also included two three-sided kiosks highlighting categories and characteristics that make birds special creatures.

This page includes overhead signage, a few sides of the standing kiosks, one of four lookouts with animal ID information, and the installation plan for the exhibit. Kiosks installed by an outside company. Lookouts, overhead signs and story graphics installed by the Design team and I.
